The 18th century Town Hall was built around the medieval hall and hall tower. The tower houses a newly (2002) restored 50-bell carillon and has been acknowledged by UNESCO as World Heritage. The flight of steps (or ‘perron’) in front of the tower is a symbol of the municipal liberties in the Principality of Liege. Interior restauration work is now taking place: the Town Hall will be re-opened to the general public in 2011.
